About

Daryl Jones has been an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) since 2009.

“I passed my L test in 1994, and If I’m honest I was very reluctant to learn. Most of my mates had cars so I was never short of a lift, but mainly I was reluctant because I was nervous of being behind the wheel and wasn’t sure if I wanted the responsibility. If someone had told me that I’d be an ADI 15 years later I wouldn’t have believed them.

Because of this I can relate to students feeling nervous at times during their training. I can also relate to how holding a driving licence can lead to freedom, new opportunities and even new careers.”

“My lessons take place in a 2019 1.4 petrol Vauxhall Corsa: very comfortable and very easy to drive. The lessons are relaxed, but structured. I’m enthusiastic about what I do and find it very rewarding: There’s nothing quite like seeing someone progress from a total beginner to that look on their face when the examiner tells them that they’ve passed”

“I firmly believe learning to drive is a virtuous circle of confidence and competence: the more confident the driver is, the more competent they become and the greater the competence, the greater the confidence. The tricky bit is jumping into the circle but, once you’re in, you’ll be fine.”
